While most idols usually use a stage name while promoting themselves as artists, some have chosen to use their birth names instead. In K-pop, it is common to refer to our favorite idols by their birth names despite their stage names to feel a closer bond with them. But did you know? Some of the names we know today aren’t actually the names originally given to them!

For various reasons, some idols decide to change their birth names legally. With that, here are some K-pop idols who legally changed their birth names that suit them better!

1. Apink Eunji

Apink member Eunji, who also promotes by her full name Jung Eunji, was actually born as Jung Hyerim. However, she changed her legal name after a fortune-teller told her so. Since then, she has used her changed name for her entire career.

In 2016, Yesung changed his birth name from Kim Jongwoon to Kim Jonghoon. However, it wasn’t actually him that decided to change his name. His mother decided to change Yesung’s name as she thought his previous name wasn’t favorable to him. Yesung only found out about it three months after!
