Following the huge success left by season 2, all eyes are on the third sequel as the broadcast network teases viewers with exciting stories and new characters.

Although the medical K-drama reprised the majority of the cast, three new characters were added to the cast lineup.

A new season means a new villain for the Doldam staff.

For “Dr. Romantic 3,” veteran actor Lee Kyung Young plays the antagonist, Dr. Cha Jin Man. the great rival of Kim Sa Bu and Cha Eun Jae’s father.

In the third season, he is the head of Kim Sa Bu’s lifelong dream, the trauma center.

Adding to the list of new cast members are Lee Hong Nae and Lee Shin Young as the maknaes of Doldam Hospital.

With an interesting storyline and cast members, “Dr. Romantic 3” fails to secure the expected success of the viewers.

As expected, the SBS medical K-drama kicked off with an impressive start as “Dr. Romantic 3” episode 1 garnered a double digit rating of 12.7 percent nationwide rating.

It was then followed by another increase, landing a nationwide average of 13.8 percent for its second episode.

Unfortunately, the show’s rating seemed unstable from episode 3 to the start of the second half.

To recall, the medical series maintained an increasing rating in season 2 and even wrapped up the season with a 27.1 percent nationwide rating.

According to a media outlet, there might be two reasons why the show is getting a lukewarm response from the public.

From April to June, viewers get to see two medical K-dramas. One is JTBC’s “Doctor Cha,” headlined by Uhm Jung Hwa and Kim Byung Chul, while the other is “Dr. Romantic 3.”

While both dramas offer different kinds of genres, the JTBC’s Saturday and Sunday series have been reigning in the Most Buzzworthy Drama and Actor rankings.

On top of it, “Doctor Cha” is consistent with the movement of its viewership and has reached 18.493 percent for its 12th episode.

As for “Dr. Romantic 3,” one thing that the outlet pointed out is the change in streaming platform.

Previously, the show was aired via Netflix, but the current show is only available through SBS and Disney+.
