On Oct. 24 local time, Billboard introduced “THE-K Billboard Awards,” a new award ceremony “highlighting the dazzling achievements of K-pop artists based on the Billboard charts.”

It is the final official event of the 2022 K-Culture Festival, which wrapped up its nine-day run with “THE-K Concert” at Seoul Olympic Stadium, decorated with performances by NCT Dream, IVE, MONSTA X, WINNER, STAYC, MCND, Block B Zico, BLANK2Y, WJSN, and MAX.

On Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. KST, the award show was streamed live from K-Culture Festival’s official YouTube channel and the winners for their three categories were announced: Top Artist, Global Artist, and Hot Rookie.

In particular, BTS and TXT both won Top Artist, which is awarded to two teams based on performance on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts.

BTS also earned the Global Artist award, along with rookie girl group IVE. Global Artist is awarded to two teams based on Billboard Global 200 chart performance.

Finally, four new K-pop groups earned Hot Rookie, which is given to four teams based on chart performance within the first three years of their debut on Hot 100, Billboard 200, and Global 200. The winners are NewJeans, ENHYPEN, IVE, and Kep1er.

To recall, BTS has been entering the Billboard Hot 100 with their multiple releases. This year, their latest title track “Yet to Come” (The Most Beautiful Moment)” debuted at No. 13 on Hot 100, while their new B-side song “Run BTS” entered at No. 73 on the same chart.

Additionally, their anthology album “Proof” went straight to No. 1 on Billboard 200 with the biggest U.S. sales week of any group this 2022. This feat made BTS the first Korean artist in history to top the said chart with six different albums.

TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), with their latest mini-album “minside 2: Thursday’s Child,” became the first K-pop artist to spend 14 weeks on Billboard 200 this 2022. They also became the K-pop artist with the second most cumulative weeks on the tally, with a total of 32 weeks.

IVE’s songs are well-received around the world, as well. “LOVE DIVE” has now spent 29 weeks on Billboard Global Excl. U.S chart (as of Oct. 29), while “After LIKE” has been on the tally for nine weeks.

Meanwhile, NewJeans has been on Billboard Global 200 for a cumulative 20 weeks as of Oct. 22. Moreover, they are the first fourth-generation K-pop group to chart three different songs on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart simultaneously.

ENHYPEN re-entered Billboard 200 (dated Oct. 22) with “MANIFESTO : DAY 1,” making it their first album to stay for seven weeks on the chart. Notably, ENHYPEN is the fastest K-pop boy group to land in the top 10 on Billboard 200, doing so in only one year and nine months after their debut.

Finally, Kep1er lasted for 16 weeks on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart with their debut song “WA DA DA” (as of April 30). They are one of the only four fourth-generation K-pop groups to stay on the chart for more than 15 weeks. (The others are IVE, LE SSERAFIM, and (G)I-DLE.)
